Instructions x
Click on counties to shade colors and even save by bookmark or saving the web address. Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera are all OK. IE does not work! Send feedback to mikelee.unc@gmail.com

To add a key or caption click the caption... button below. You can then double-click the caption names to specify a label for them.

To change the colors, you will need to add or edit a parameter on the web address in your browser. The list of colors is given with the standard 6 digit hexadecimal web colors, like this: colors=FFFFCC,FF0000,333333 for yellow, red, and gray, colors 1, 2, and 3. After .html, add "?colors=FFFFCC,FF0000,333333" WITHOUT QUOTES!

If you have parameters that are too long for the URL, paste them here:

For more parameter options, click "terms|about|cite" below.

Saving this map x
You can save a web address to get back to the map you see now, saving the highlighted areas, zoom, and map view. You may do so by bookmarking the link below, or copying this web address text.
Bookmark this web address or click to test the link in new window.
NEW! Try map in MONOCHROME
Or you can shorten this web address with snipURL.com.

Save the map as an image by taking a screenshot of this page. While I'm not endorsing any of these tools, you can use a program called SnagIt to take a screenshot, or press PrntScrn (PrintScreen) on your keyboard (Windows). You might press F11 before pressing PrntScrn as this will put the browser in full-screen mode, removing browser buttons, toolbar, etc. from the screenshot. Press F11 again to make your browser return to normal mode. This saves an image to the clipboard, where you can paste it into a program like MS-Paint (I recommend saving as a .png file instead of .jpg).

Or, you can use extensions/add-ons such as ScreenGrab or Fireshot to right-click and save the visible browser area as an images (I recommend the .png format). For Fireshot, you will need to disable the Flash capture in the preferences menu.

Before a screen capture, you might want to close the yellow boxes on the screen (with the close button or the x in the upper right). Highlighting something on the map will bring back the main control box.
